Return home

Now that you have graduated and decided to return home, it is time to focus on the last administrative procedures you need to take care of before leaving the country.

  1. Tax Return

The financial year in Australia runs from July 1st until June 30th. Every year you need to lodge your Tax Return by October 31st. You can do it online on your own or contact a registered tax agent to help you with your declaration. It can be a little technical if you are not familiar with the Australian Taxation system. Doing your Tax Return through a registered tax agent will also grant you more time to lodge it. Feel free to contact the accountant we work with if you need help with your Tax Return, you can find the details here.

You can also find more information on the Australian Taxation Office website.

  1. Superannuation

The Superannuation is a nominated fund on which your employer saves money for your retirement. This is money that you receive on top of your wage and salary that you can access when you retire or turn 65 years old.

When leaving Australia, you are entitled to a Departing Australia super payment (DASP) to get this money back.

You can also find more information on the Australian Taxation Office website.

  1. GST refund

On your way back home, you might want to treat yourself or your loved ones back at home. Keep in mind that you can claim your GST back when leaving Australia if you spend over A$300 from a single business (even if it is on separate tax invoices) within the last 60 days prior to departure. So, remember to keep the tax invoices and to stop at the TRS desk just after the immigration check to claim your GST back.
