Working Holiday Visa / Work & Holiday Visa
The Working Holiday program allows young adults to travel, work and study in Australia for up to 2 years. There are 2 different visa options in this program. The Working Holiday Visa, Subclass 417 and the Work and Holiday Visa, Subclass 462.
They both allow you to:
- stay in Australia for up to 12 months
- work on a full-time basis but for a maximum of 6 months per employer
- study for up to 4 months
- travel in and out of Australia with multiples entries.
To apply for either Visa, you must:
- be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of application, except for Canadians and Irish passport holders who can apply until 35.
- be outside Australia at the time of application and at the time of grant for the first application
- not be accompanied by dependent children
- have the necessary funds to support your needs.
The application fee for the visa is A$485. It is a one-year visa. You can then apply for a 2nd year if you have completed 3 months of work in eligible areas of Northern and Regional Australia. You can then apply for a 3rd year if you have completed 6 months of work in eligible areas of Northern and Regional Australia.

The 462 visa comes with extra requirements for applicants:
- Have a functional English (IELTS 4,5 or equivalent)
- Have studied at tertiary level
